GAMA-GO Haiku Contest Winners

By Adam Nace, GAMA-GO Public Relations Dude

The first ever GAMA-GO Haiku Contest was a huge hit! We had over 100 haikus submitted by our awesomely enlightened fans. You guys totally blew my expectations out of the water and I offer my thanks to everyone who participated in the contest.

Before I announce the winners, I wanted to take a moment to thank our friends and sponsors, Last Gasp, for supplying this month’s super cool prize packs. They were truly generous in providing some top shelf material for our winners.

With so many poems to choose from, I compiled a list of my eight favorites and circulated it around the office to be reviewed by the GAMA-GO crew. There was some division between the staffers and a few Rock, Paper, Scissors battles were waged but we eventually came to a decision. Below, (in no particular order) you’ll find the six runners up.

Base camp is so far
Yeti takes so many steps
To eat a sherpa

- Chris Burns via email

Feral apparel
go forth to meet your maker
but at whose peril?

- Matt Schneider via email

Snuggly soft cotton
Snarky little animals
Stop petting my chest

- Laura Dzwigalski via email

Bling bells, Yeti smells.
Ninja Kitty laid Squid’s egg.
Dirty Bird ate it.

- Sheridan McAuly via email

Peacock tails explode
Under dirty bird wings with
Dandelion owls

- David Ackerman via blog

The proctolosquid
can examine his patients
eight at a time—–ouch

- Mark Aranof via blog

Our runner up, Sheri Tardio, is getting hooked up with a copy of Tokyo Zombie and a GAMA-GO Burning Bookmark for this little gem of zen:

Ninja Kitty’s here
You ready to Gama Go?
Not Yeti, he said.

Finally, our first place winner and recipient of a copy of Little Fluffy Gigolo Pelu, Vol. 1, Onikage: The Art of Toshio Saeki (Hardcover), Jack Kerouac’s Book of Haikus and a GAMA-GO Burning Bookmark is, drum roll please, Penny Carlton! Here’s Penny’s Haiku:

Cephalopod dreams
We dwell between tidal waves
Awaiting sailors

More of Penny’s work can be found on her website, PenStar Poetry.

Again, a big thank you to Last Gasp and to everyone who participated! Stay tuned for August’s contest (to be announced on August 12) for another chance to win big.
